Dear Parents and Carers

Welcome to my usual round up of the week regarding the key points at All Saints…

Staff Absence

Parents may be aware that staff absence has been a factor this week, including for myself, which has, of course, been frustrating.

We always do our best to mitigate when colleagues are away but it is increasingly difficult at the moment to find supply staff and I very grateful indeed to all colleagues at school who have covered classes at short notice this week: thank you.

Where possible, we will do our very best to allocate subject specialists to cover lessons, but this may not always be the case and some lessons may need to be taken by cover supervisors in the short term. We will prioritise Year 11 lessons, given pupils are in their final year; I hope that this is a logical (and steadfast) priority that all can support.

Teacher vacancies around the country are increasingly rapidly at the moment, but it remains a fantastic profession and career! If you are interested in teaching or know of anyone who is – particularly in the core subject areas of English, Maths & Science – please do get in touch with me via the office.

Events this week

Well done to everyone involved this week in the pupil photos. Thesewent very smoothly and ahead of schedule so thank you to all pupils involved. The details about how you can order your child’s photo will be sent home next week.

This week also saw the European Day of Languages with some great engagement in our Language Department and from the canteen with a whole range of different cuisine on offer!

Year 11 pupils had an input from Weymouth College who have recently announced a merger with Kingston Maurward College. I would encourage all pupils to make a range of plans for their Post 16 destinations and hope that they found the talk helpful. In the coming weeks we will welcome the local Sixth Forms and other providers so that pupils have heard from every local destination.

Upcoming Events

I have signed a number of important letters this week about future off site visits including The Woman in Black Theatre Trip in November and The Imperial War Museum Visit for RE in October. Please do read the letters on the website for more information if your child has a place or is interested.

A little closer on the horizon, we have the following taking place next week:

The next evening engagement for parents is our Year 11 Revision Evening which is taking place on Monday 9 October. Please read the letter here and sign up the workshops!

It seems hard to believe that we are already past the mid way point of Term 1 – time is truly flying by. Please keep on working with your child to ensure they are looking smart every day and are ready to learn with the correct equipment and a positive attitude. With these in place, they can really do great things over the next 3 weeks before the end of half term.

Do enjoy the weekend and we look forward to seeing you all next week

Best wishes

John Cornish
