All Saints School wholeheartedly supports the very notion of Britishness within the school and the wider community. Please use this link to see how it is mapped in to our learning for life lessons: Learning for Life British Values mapping document

Understanding that we live in a British world where all inhabitants of the British political system and world experience models of the economy, continue to be influenced by British culture is very much something that should be celebrated and recognised. Defining Britishness will invariably be difficult given the past and on-going influence of Great Britain.

The very notion goes beyond simple, genuine headings, but rather a commitment from the school community to identify the unique aspects of being British – understood by both the school community and the wider context.

The following list we have defined as British Values:

  1. Democracy
  2. Tolerance
  3. Responsibility
  4. Law
  5. Respect
  6. Liberty

We define our British values as:
1. Democracy
Understanding that I can influence the way the school runs through the school council team and by talking to staff. That I can also influence my lessons through putting my hand up and responding.

2. Tolerance
To recognise that it is unacceptable to dismiss the beliefs and opinions of anyone. To also understand that discussions about sensitive issues will be controlled and structured.

3. Responsibility
To be able to recognise that I am as equally responsible for my learning as the teacher. To take responsibility for all my actions – good or bad. To recognise we all have a responsibility to promote and protect the well being of others.

4. Law
I should understand that the school rules are used to mirror society laws and must be respected. I should also recognise that there will be consequences for my actions should any rules be broken.

5. Respect
I recognise that everyone is entitled to their opinion as long as it does not promote extremist views. I should understand that everyone is entitled to a voice within the classroom. I will listen to others as I would like to be listened to.

6. Liberty
I am free to think as I see fit. I have the freedom to make choices that affect me but I recognise I am accountable for all my actions.
