All Saints CE Academy – Curriculum Vision
Our curriculum is designed to help students develop the wisdom, knowledge, skills and understanding that will sustain them throughout their schooling and into adult life. Within a broad curriculum, students are given the chance to discover their unique, God given skills, talents and abilities. Our ambitious and inclusive curriculum is underpinned by high quality GCSE and vocational qualifications.
When students leave All Saints CE Academy, it is our aim that they do so being able to communicate effectively in a range of ways appropriate for our fast changing world. We intend for them to have open and enquiring minds and to be able to ask relevant questions and therefore make informed choices. We expect their choices to positively impact their own wellbeing and add to their sense of personal flourishing. We also intend for them to understand moral decisions, to respect difference in all its forms and to exercise kindness and compassion in their day to day lives.
We deliberately focus on the development of strong core skills that will help students throughout their lives. These are delivered within a wide range of subjects taught by specialist teachers who are passionate about their areas of expertise.
By doing all of the above, we believe our curriculum empowers and enables our learners to leave school with effective knowledge and skills for the rest of their lives.
Equality Act 2010 & Special Educational Needs and Disability Regulations 2014
We comply with both of these key pieces of legislation and ensure that all pupils can access our curriculum regardless of disability or special educational need. We also ensure pupils with protected characteristics are enabled to access the full curriculum and are protected from all forms of discrimination.
Key Stage 3
Students experience over 15 subjects in Years 7 & 8 so that they have a strong foundation on which to build when they progress into Key Stage 4. They study a core curriculum of English, Maths, Science, Religious Education (with a focus on Christianity), Physical Education and “Learning for Life” which teaches Spiritual, Moral, Social and Cultural values and ideas. In addition, they enjoy many creative and technology based subjects as well as the rigorous EBACC subjects of Geography, History and Modern Foreign Languages.
In Year 9, students continue to enjoy the rich and diverse curriculum outlined above but are also given the opportunity to personalise their learning by selecting two subjects from Food & Nutrition, Engineering, ICT or Design Technology in the Technology part of our curriculum, and two from Music, Drama, Art or Media Studies in the creative and performing arts components of their timetable.
Extra-Curricular Events and Opportunities
All Saints CE Academy recognises and actively promotes the value of extra-curricular activities and continues to expand on a wide range of established enrichment activities for our students. These currently include: the opportunity to work towards a Duke of Edinburgh bronze award; a wide array of sporting clubs; drama clubs; a range of STEM enrichment events; numerous career-related activities; subject-specific day trips and residential trips; our annual ski trip and the longstanding World Challenge programme. These activities provide our students with lifelong memories and contribute deeply to their personal development.
Key Stage 4
In Years 10 and 11, students study for their GCSEs and other vocational qualifications. In addition to the core curriculum of English Language and Literature, Maths, Double Award Science, Religious Education, core PE and Learning for Life, all students choose either History or Geography and two further options. All are invited to study German, Spanish or French as a Modern Foreign Language and therefore gain the English Baccalaureate.
The options taken may be GCSE or vocational subjects, which gives students the chance to learn in practical and academic frameworks, depending on their personal skills and preferences. Subjects such as Art, History, Geography, Computer Science, Languages, Performing Arts, Engineering, Child Development, Food Technology and many more mean that there is a range of options open for everyone.
The impact of our curriculum is that students will leave All Saints ready for life after school with strong examination results, a clear set of moral values and a depth of well-rounded character that will enable them to flourish and experience the fullness of life.
